DEFINITIONS Rhyme Scheme is the pattern of end rhymes in a poem (Allen, 2008). A Stanza is a group of two or more lines that forma unit in a poem (Allen, 2008). In a sense, a stanza in a poem is equivalent to a paragraph in a prose text. A Volta is the turn of thought or argument (poetry foundation). Volta is the Italian word for turn and this is usually the point in the
poem where the tone changes.
