ПАРАФІАЛЬНІ НОВИНИSEMI ANNUAL PRESIDENT’S REPORT, 2020We are happy to see all the parishioners that have been at theservices since the church reopening. It’s been a very trying timeand we hope that you and your families have been doing well.It’s hard to believe that we are at the half-way point of ourChurch calendar year. It would seem that time should havestood still but we have been quite busyDue to COVID 19 epidemic, our parish closed mid-Marchfollowing Consistory and State mandates. However, we managedto hold our first meeting on March 15, 2020 to set our goals forthis year:1. Maintenance of the Church, Hall, and RentalProperties. Five (5) stained glass windows on the south side wereremoved for repair and reinstalled on July 3rd. The totalcost came to around 25,000.00 Manko and church parking lots were repaired and retarred during the week of July 13th through the 29th at thecost of around 22,000. Our janitorial and maintenance staff, continued tomaintain the church, church properties and groundsincluding many repair projects big and small. Thank youagain to Natalia Delitsoy for planting the lovely gardenalong the walkway behind the church hall. Also, sometenants have taken the initiative, with permission, tobeautify their yards, for which we are grateful.2. Spiritual Growth of Parishioners Spiritually, the Consistory mandated that liturgies continuedto be served every Sunday and Holy day. Father Evhen didcontinue to serve liturgy behind closed doors, with the cantor,Peter Hachow. Unique situations call for unique solutions. Easter, the mostHoly holiday in the Orthodox church, was celebrated virtuallythis year. The Consistory live streamed church services as didSt. Katherine’s. Those who were homebound were able towatch the services and bless their Easter baskets at home.The Consistory continues to live stream daily morning/eveningprayers in addition to Sunday and Holy Day liturgies In May the Board held its monthly meeting to discuss theopening of our church for services. To reopen we had todevelop procedures based on Consistory and state healthdepartment guidelines for social distancing and sanitizing.These were submitted to the Metropolitan Antony andArchbishop Daniel for review. At the end of May, during azoom meeting, Father and I received a virtual blessing toreopen our parish on June 7th for PentecostI would like to thank everyone who was involved in making there-opening of the church a great success; from obtaining thenecessary sanitizing supplies, cleaning the church prior to theopening and to Anna Korsun and Marika Matlashewski whohelped to decorate the church in traditional fresh greenery.A special thank you goes to FOCUS MN for donating PersonalProtective Equipment (PPE) which is kept in the elevator foyer foruse in case of emergencyAs outlined above, during the COVID closure, church operationalexpenses have continued, including some major projects.Another special thank you goes to the janitorial staff for keepingthe church sanitized after every service.We thank all the parishioners who have continued to senddonations through this time. We would like to encourageparishioners, even if you cannot attend services, to help offsetsome of these expenses by sending donations through the mail.3. Community Outreach: The Parish board approved a 1,000.00 contribution for theSeminarians during this difficult time and 500.00 for westernUkraine’s flood relief fund.

FOCUS MN reopened early June with minimum volunteersand they need the following: Food donations for the food shelf and volunteers to helpstock shelfs, fill bags of staples for distribution and pick upfood. They operate every 2nd and 4th Saturday of themonth. Starting July 31st volunteers are needed to make freshsandwiches in addition to the approximately 200 shelfstaple sandwiches made weekly for various youth partnersand neighborhood distribution. Production of sandwich /lunch bags occurs Thursdays from 10 to noon and aredistributed Mondays and Thursdays from 11:30 – 12:00outside FOCUS house The clothes closet is open by appointment only tominimize the amount of people in the building. They areonly accepting donations of winter wear for men, women,and children, including coats, boots, hats, scarves andgloves and mittens. New underwear and socks for men,women, and children; diapers in all sizes and wipes.School supplies; crayons, markers, number 2 pencils, inkpens, spiral bound notebooks, and construction paper.o Containers for donations will be available inthe hallway towards the church. Please onlybring items outlined above. Receptionist is needed to answer the office phones, takemessages, let people into the building and direct them towhere they need to go, answer questions aboutprogramming, make inquiries or confirm clothes closetappointments. The needed reception hours during theweek are during 10:00 am and 2:00 pm. This can bedivided between 2 people, split between 10 – 12:30 and12:30 to 2:00.Anyone interested in any volunteeropportunities at FOCUS, please contact medirectly. Sunday meals have also begun, June through December,served from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm as To Go Meals. OurSisterhood has volunteered to host a takeout dinner onOctober 25th. Contact Julie Pawluk if you would like tovolunteer to help in preparation. The Holodomor project is ongoing, and we have receivedcommitments from all Ukrainian Catholic and Orthodoxcommunity parishes to support the gathering of documentaryevidence and pictures relating to the Holodomor impact onour immigrant community in the Twin Cities. HalynaMyroniuk is currently reviewing parish archives for anyinformation related to the Holodomor.Special memorial contributions are being requested for thereplacement of the stained-glass windows which cost just under 5,000.00 per window. Anyone wishing to make acommemorative donation for a family member(s) or themselves,please send your donations to the church in care of TamaraNiepritzky with a notation for stained glass windows. A donorplaque will be hung in the church - if someone sponsors an entirewindow, a separate donor plaque will be mounted under thatwindowWe have had services for over two months and thank God thatthere been no incidents of illness. We want to reassure thosewho are worried about attending services at church because ofCOVID that we continue to take all necessary precautions tosanitize and social distance to make it safe to attend services.God willing, we will restart our Fellowship hour in the church hall,beginning September 13th. Метаморфосіс, лат. Transfiguratio)означає “перетворення в інший вид”, “зміна форми”. Повнаназва свята звучить так: Преображення Господа Бога і Спасанашого Ісуса Христа. Воно завжди відзначається в один і тойсамий день – 19 серпня. Свято встановлено на згадку проєвангельську подію, коли троє апостолів побачили ІсусаХриста у всій його божественній величі. У народі свято більшвідоме під назвою Яблучний Спас, оскільки цього дня вхрамах освячують плоди нового врожаю, символом котрогостали яблука.Свято Преображення Господнього вже в IV столітті займалочільне місце у церковному календарі, про що свідчить низкапроповідей і повчань.Основний сенс цієї події полягав у тому, що Господь явивнайближчим учням своє істинне Божественне єство, котре доцього було для них та інших послідовників зовсімнеочевидним. Це мало зміцнити віру апостолів у годинувипробувань. Так, Ісус Христос узяв із собою трьохнайближчих учнів – Петра, Якова та Іоана – і зійшов з нимина гору Фавор. Піднявшись на вершину, Христос почавмолитися. Під час молитви апостоли побачили, як Ісуспреобразився: лице його сяяло – мов сонце, а одяг став білимяк сніг. Таким чином, святкуванням ПреображенняГосподнього церква урочисто сповідує й прославляєпоєднання Божества і людства в особі Ісуса Христа.Суть Преображення розкривається в його символах. Гора – цебезмовне, тихе місце для молитви, в якому наш неспокійнийрозум допоможе душі з’єднатися з Богом. Фавор у перекладіозначає “чистота”, “світло”. Той, хто усвідомлює свої гріхи,кається в них і намагається надалі не допускати їхповторення, може звільнитися від бруду і тоді на ньогопроллється Божественне світло. Християнське вчення вважає,що саме набуття цього світла є головною метою людини,сенсом усього її життя.19 серпня це традиційне свято нового врожаю – запостольських часів церквою встановлено освячувати дозріліплоди – яблука, груші, сливи, виноград, перш ніж вживати їхв їжу, з проголошенням при цьому молитви.У Греції та Ізраїлі свято Преображення Господньогоприпадало на пору дозрівання винограду. Тому віруючіприносили грона в храм як знак подяки Богу. В Україні жзамість винограду в церкву прийнято приносити й освячуватияблука, від чого й пішла народна назва свята – ЯблучнийСпас. Згідно із народними повір’ями, виноград та яблука неможна вживати до 19 серпня, їсти їх дозволяється лише післяосвячення на Преображення Господнє. Крім того, особливоготуються до цього дня також пасічники. Їм треба освятитивулики, пригостити медом сусідів, особливо сиріт, немічних тазнедолених.
